Discussion & Documentation

Christian Erdmann, servant of Johann Gottfried Jost, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

This is believed to be the same person who is recorded as orphan Hartmann Berker (age 19) on the 1767 census of Jost in Household No. 1 along with the Johann Gottfried Jost family. [See Jost Family.]

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Christian Erdmann came from the German region of Sachsen (Saxony). The 1767 census does not record from where Hartmann Berker came.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
