Discussion & Documentation
Franz Heinrich Essler, a farmer, and his wife Anna Margaretha settled in the Volga German colony of Bauer on 20 July 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 15 along with stepchildren (Georg Peter Roth, age 16; Anna Margaretha Roth, age 14). [See Roth Family.]
The 1767 census records that Franz Heinrich Essler came from the German village of Rederank in the Mecklenburg region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Essler family among the Volga German colonies.
