Discussion & Documentation

Peter Fendrich, a farmer, his wife Anna, and daughters (Margaretha, age 12; Margaretha [again], age 6; Katharina, age 6; Anna, age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Neptunus (Neptune) under the command of Skipper Johann Graap.

Peter Fenbrich [sic], his wife Dorothea, and daughters (Margretha, age 13; Margretha [again], age 6; Anna Catharina, age 6; Anna Elisabeth, age 3) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that they all (except for oldest daughter Margaretha) died en route.

Daughter Anna Margaretha Fendrich (age 14) is recorded on the 1767 census of Kautz in Household No. 24 where she is identified as the stepdaughter [?] of Jakob Miltenberger.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Peter Fendrich came from the German region of Pfalz. The 1767 census does not record from where Anna Margaretha Fendrich came.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Fendrich family among the Volga German colonies.
