Johann Friedrich Frank settled in the Volga German colony of Merkel on 28 August 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 31 with a note that he relocated to the neighboring colony of Kratzke in 1768.
The 1767 census records that Johann Friedrich Frank came from the German district of Magdeburg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Frank family among the Volga German colonies.
