Johann Gabel and his wife Margaretha settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 64.
Johann Gabel and his family are recorded on the 1775 census of Grimm in Household No. 139.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Georg Gabel was a miller from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that he was a farmer from the German region of Hessen.
