Gi(e)sick (Walter)

There are two Giesick families that settled in the colony of Walter. Their relationship to each other, if any, needs further research.

(1) Johann Georg Giesich [sic], his wife Anna Kathairna, and daughter Anna Margaretha (age 1) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 travelling with the Johann Heinrich Giesich [sic] noted below.

Johann Georg Giesick, a farmer, his wife Anna Katharina, and children (Johann, age 19; Anna Margaretha, age 1) are recorded on the 1767 census of Walter in Household No. 8 They had settled in Walter on 25 August 1767.

The widow and children of Johannes Giesick (believed to be the 19-year-old recorded above) are recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt107.

Margaretha Giesick, daughter of Johann Georg Giesick, is recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt084 along with her husband Johann Heinrich Rohn and family.

The 1767 census records that Johann Georg Giesick came from the German village of Großenmoor.

(2) Heinrich Giesick, a weaver, his wife Anna, and daughter Anna (age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard the pink Lev under the command of Lieutenant Fyodor Fyodorov.

Johann Heinrich Giesich [sic] and his wife Anna Maria are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 travelling with the above mentioned Johann Georg Giesich [sic].

Johann Heinrich Giesick and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt090.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich Giesick came from the German region of Werder [perhaps Wehrda, located just north of Großenmoor].
