Discussion & Documentation

Johann Götte, a farmer, and his wife Dorothea arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a ship named Die Zwei Gebrüder (The Two Brothers) under the command of Skipper Nicolaus Peter Pinck.

Johan [sic] Göde, his wife Dorothea, and newborn daughter Maria are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Maria also died in route.

It is not known in which colony this family settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Götte came from the German region of Mecklenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Götte family among the Volga German colonies.
