Heinrich Gries, a farmer, and his family immigrated in 1761 to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) where they remained until 1765.
Heinrich Gries, a farmer, his wife Susanna, and daughter Susanna (age 20) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 May 1766 aboard the galliot named Adler (Eagle) under the command of the Skipper Paul Adolph Drath.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Dinkel on 12 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 9.
Both the Eichhorn book and the 1767 census record that Heinrich Gries came from the German village of Ziegenberg in the area of Darmstadt. The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich Gries came from the German region of Darmstadt.
There are no known surviving male descendants of this family among the Volga German colonies.
