Johann Michael Gross, son of Johann Michael & Anna Eva Gross, was born on 29 January 1717 in Steinbach am Donnersberg in the Pfalz. He married on 10 February 1739 in nearby Göllheim to Rebecca Wilhelmina Gross, daughter of Johann Jacob Gross & Maria Barbara Maul, who had been born in 1723 in nearby Jakobsweiler.

Among their children are: (1) [a] Georg Friedrich, baptized 18 December 1742 in Kirchenheimbolanden; (2) [b] Johann Philipp, baptized 8 August 1747 in Bad Dürkheim; (3) [c] Johann Georg, baptized on 26 August 1753 in Bad Dürkheim; and (4) Sybilla Catharina, baptized on 24 August 1756 in Bad Dürkheim.

Johann Michael Gross, a saddle maker (Sattler), and his family immigrated to Russia, settling in the Volga German colony of Kratzke on 7 August 1766.

Rebecca Wilhelmina Gross, widow of Johann Michael Gross, and her children ([c] Johann Georg, age 14; Maria Sibilla, age 11) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kratzke in Household No. 33.

[a] Georg Friedrich Gross, a salt master (Salzsieder), his wife Sophia Elisabeth, and sons ([aa] Johann Martin, age 3; [ab] Johann Philipp, age ¾) are recorded on the 1767 census of Kratzke in Household No. 20. They had settled in Kratzke on 7 August 1766.

The death of [Johann] Martin Gross in 1818 is recorded on the 1834 census of Kratzke in Household No. 2.

Johann Heinrich Gross, presumed son of Johann Martin Gross, is recorded on the 1834 census of Kratzke in Household No. 75.

[ab] In 1792, Johann Philipp Gross moved from Kratzke to Yagodnaya Polyana.
