Johann Friedrich Haagen, a farmer, his wife Maria, and son Johann Nikolaus (age 8-weeks) are recorded on the 1767 census of Stahl am Tarlyk in Household No. 63. They had settled there on 19 August 1767.
The 1767 census records that Johann Friedrich Haagen came from the town of Schleswig in the Holstein region.
