Balthasar Haas, a farmer, his wife Agatha, and children (Maria Magdalena, age 18; Johann Philipp, age 16; Johann Wendel, age 11; Anna Barbara, age 8) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig Mercurius under the command of Skipper Christian Heinrich Abelßen.
The parents died and the surviving children settled in the Volga German colony of Sewald on 20 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 37 where Maria Magdalena is married to Philipp Hiltenberger.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Balthasar Haas came from the German region of Mainz.
