Discussion & Documentation

David Hahndorf, a tailor, his wife Anna, and sons (Johann, age 9; Christian, age 8) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a ship named Die Zwei Gebrüder (The Two Brothers) under the command of Skipper Nicolaus Peter Pinck.

Johan Hahndorf, his wife Anna Catharina, and sons (Christian, age 10; Joh. David, age 9) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that both parents died en route.

Orphan Christoph [sic] Hahndorf (age 9) is recorded on the 1767 census of Boisroux in Household No. 87 along with the Christoph Kummer family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Hahndorf and Kummer families.

Orphan David Hahndorf is recorded on the 1767 census of Orlovskaya in Household No. 20 living with the Christoph Lipps family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Hahndorf and Lipps families.

In 1790, David Hahndorf moved from Orlovskaya to Schäfer.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that David Hahndorf came from the German region of Köthen. The 1767 census records that Orphan Christoph Hahndorf came from the German region of Köthen.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
