Asmus Hansen and his family arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the Danish galliot Der Engel Rafael under the command of Skipper Ehlert Kongsted.

They settled in the Volga German colony of  Stahl am Tarlyk on 13 August 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 20.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Asmus Hansen was a carpenter while the 1767 census records that he was a shipswright (Schiffszimmermann).

The 1767 census records that Asmus Hansen came from the Danish village of Scherschir.
