Happel (Grimm)
Johann Heinrich Happel, his wife Anna Barbara, and daughter Anna Katharina (age 2½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 August 1766 aboard the Russian galliot Strelna under the command of Lieutenant Sornev.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Grimm and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 48 along with Johann Philipp Mertz (age 17) who was on the same ship arriving in Oranienbaum. There is no relationship recorded between the Heppel and Merz families.
Heinrich Happel and his wife Margaretha are recorded on the 1775 census of Grimm in Household No. 122 along with brother-in-law Johann Philipp Mertz.
Christoph Happel and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Grimm in Household No. 29.
Heinrich Adolph Happel, son of Christoph Happel, and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Grimm in Household No. 31.
Johann Georg Happel, son of Christoph Happel, and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Grimm in Household No. 144.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Heinrich Happel was a physician while the 1767 census records that he was a craftsman (Handwerker).
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Johann Heinrich Happel came from the German region of Darmstadt.
