Discussion & Documentation

Johann Nicolaus Harres, son of Johann Georg Harres & Eva Vetter, was born in Knoden (today a part of Lautertal) on 7 February 1714 and baptized in the Evangelical Church of Reichenbach (today also a part of Lautertal) on 11 February 1714. He married Anna Margaretha Rutz, daughter of Valentin Rutz, on 18 January 1735 in the same church.

They had nine known children, each born in Knoden and baptized in Reichenbach: (1) Johann Samuel, on 16 October 1735; (2) Johann Peter, on 3 January 1738; (3) Anna Margaretha, on 14 February 1740; (4) Anna Barbara, on 6 May 1742; (5) Sebastian, on 13 September 1744; (6) Christian, on 1 September 1747; (7) Christina, on 4 October 1750; (8) Johann Nicolaus, on 20 May 1753; and (9) Anna Barbara (again) on 30 March 1756.

Widow Anna Margaretha Harres along with seven of their children departed from Altona, Duchy of Holstein, at the end of May 1760, arriving in Fridericia, Jutland, on 1 May 1760.

Several of the children immigrated to Russia where they are recorded on the 1775 census of Schilling in Household No. 39.

The 1798 Census of Schilling records daughter Christina in Household No. Sg38; the widow of son Christian in Household No. Sg40; and daughter Anna Barbara (1742) in Household No. Sg 51. Daughter Anna Barbara (1756) is recorded in Beideck on the 1798 Census in Household No. Bd81.
