Hans Hartmann, a farmer, his wife Dorothea, and sons (Karl, age 17¼; Johannes, age 12; Friedrich, age 4; Klaus, age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 29 May 1766 aboard the galliot named Adler (Eagle) under the command of the Skipper Paul Adolph Drath.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Dinkel on 27 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No.37.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Hans Hartmann came from the German region of Holstein. The 1767 census records that he came from the town of Bulwitz in Sweden. This is believed to be Ballwitz which at the time was located in Swedish Pomerania.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Hartmann family among the Volga German colonies.
