Johann Hartung, a farmer, and his wife Gertruda arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a barque named Fortitudo (Fortitude) under the command of Skipper John Scott.
Johannes Hartung and his wife Gerdrutha are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg and Saratov in 1767 along with a note that they both died in route.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Hartung came from the German region of Isenburg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Hartung family among the Volga German colonies.
