Michael Hartwig, a farmer, his wife Julianna, and daughters (Katharina, age 24; Anna, age 22; Maria, age 19; Magdalena, age 15) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax. Arriving with them in Oranienbaum were two additional children: (1) Stephan [Gottfried] Hartwig, his wife Elisabeth, and daughter Anna (age 1); and (2) Anna [Hartwig] and her husband Konrad Götz, and daughter Susanna (age 1).
Stephan Gottfried Hartwig, his wife Elisabeth, and their children (Katharina, age 7; Johannes, age 5½) are recorded on the 1775 census of the Volga German colony of Schilling in Household No. 74. The 1798 census records the family in Household No. Sg054.
Anna Margaretha Hartwig, her husband Konrad Götz, and their family are recorded on the 1767 census of Messer in Household No. 39.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that the Hartwig family came from the German region of Isenburg.
