Johann August Hein, a farmer, and his wife Maria Elisabeth settled in the Volga German colony of Jost on 5 September 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 71.

The 1767 census records that Johann August Hein came from the German village of Lindau in the region of Anhalt-Zerbst.
