Johann Herbst, a single miller (Müller), arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 24 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Лапоминк (Lapomink - a Russian river) under the command of Lieutenant Dmitry Krykov.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Dietel.
In 1793, Johann Herbst and his family moved from Dietel to Frank.
He is recorded on the 1798 census of Frank in Household No. Fk065.
Johannnes Herbst and his family are recorded on the 1811 census of Frank in Household No. 65.
Andreas Herbst and his family are recorded on the 1811 census of Frank in Household No. 92.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Herbst came from the German region of Justrua [?]. Karl Stumpp records that Johann Herbst came from the German region of Mecklenburg.
