Johann Friedrich Herschleben, a single hunter (Jäger), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig Mercurius under the command of Skipper Christian Heinrich Abelßen.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Urbach on 13 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 26 along with his new wife, Anna Maria.

The 1767 census records that Johann Friedrich Herschleben came from the German region of Anhalt-Zerbst. The 1767 census also records that his wife Anna Maria came from the German region of Zweibrüken.
