Peter Hertz, a craftsman (Handwerker), settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 14 June 1766. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 40 with his new bride, the widow of Christoph Müller.

Peter Hertz, son of Peter Hertz, and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Mariental in Household No. Mt25.

Peter Hertz is recorded on the 1834 census of Mariental in Household No. 217 along with a note that he relocated to the colony of Luzern in 1823.

The 1767 census records that Peter Hertz came from the German village of Cassel in the Kurtrier region.
