Heinrich Hess, a single man, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the ship Der Junge Mathias under the command of Skipper David Wollert.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Dönhof on 18 June 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 81.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Heinrich Hess was a glazier while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Heinrich Hess came from the German village of Gelnhausen.
