Hilderman(n) / Hilterman(n)

There are two Hiltermann families that settled in the Volga German colony of Holstein. The relationship to each other is not recorded, but they are believed to be brothers. Further research is needed to confirm this relationship.

(1) Gustav Hiltermann (age 41), a barber (Friseur), his wife Katharina, and children (Christian Friedrich, age 18; Adolph, age 16; Karl Christian, age 14; Katharina Magdalena, age 11; Regina, age 9) are recorded on the 1767 census of Holstein in Household No. 4. They had settled there on 2 May 1766.

In 1794, son Adolf Hiltermann and his family moved from Holstein to Dietel.

(2) Christian Hiltermann (age 37), a barber (Friseur), his wife Petronella, and children (Christian, age 13; Katharina, age 9; Anna Maria, age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Holstein in Household No. 15. They had settled there on 26 May 1765.

The 1767 census records that both of these Hiltermann families came from the German region of Bielefeld [Nordrhein-Westfalen?].

Descendants of these families use several spellings including: Hilderman, Hildermann, Hilterman, and Hiltermann.
