Hill (Walter)
Georg Wilhelm Hill was born 18 October 1712 in Altheim near Dieburg. He married Anna Sybilla Roth on 3 July 1736 in Altheim. She was born 14 April 1710, also in Altheim. They had six children: (1) unnamed stillborn son, 1737; (2) Johann Bernhard, born 8 July 1738; (3) Johann Konrad, born 3 December 1740; (4) Georg Friedrich, born 19 July 1744, died 5 March 1747; (5) Johann Wendel, born 6 October 1745; and (6) Johann Helfrich, born 26 April 1747.
Brothers Wendel and Helfrich (and evidently Konrad) immigrated to Russia. Wendel & Helfrich arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 14 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Reders along with widow Katharina Hill and [her?] children (Christoph, age 21; Eva, age 13; Margaretha, age 10) whose surname is not recorded [perhaps they are step-siblings of the Hill brothers].
Vendel Hilt [sic] and his wife Maria Elisabeth, Hilffrecht Hild [sic], along with Johann Vendel Hild [sic], his wife Anna Margretha, and daughter Eva maria (age 3) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Wendel & Helfrich settled in the Volga German colony of Walter on 10 September 1767.
Wendel Hill, a blacksmith on the Oranienbaum passenger list, is recorded on the 1767 census of Walter in Household No. 96 as a farmer along with his wife Elisabeth.
Helfrich Hill, a farmer, is recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 97 along with his new wife Anna Margaretha.
Johann Wendel Hill and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt024.
Helfrich Hill and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt025. Also recorded there is Barbara (age 30), identified as the daughter of the deceased Konrad Hill, brother of Helfrich. Konrad Hill has not been located on earlier documents in Walter.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that the Hill brothers came from the German region of Hanau. The 1767 census records that they came from the village of Spitzaltheim in the Hanau region.
