Hiltenberger
The baptism of Joseph Michael, son of Daniel & Anna Margaretha Güllenberger [Hildenberger] from Rammelsbach, on 20 January 1757 is recorded in the parish register of the Catholic Church in Kusel.
Daniel Hiltenberger, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Johann Philipp, age 18; Johann, age 16; Johann Michael, age 10; Susanna, age 7) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig Mercurius under the command of Skipper Christian Heinrich Abelßen.
Both parents died after arrival in Russia and the surviving children settled in the Volga German colony of Sewald on 20 August 1767. Philipp, his new wife Maria Magdalena Haas, his brother Johannes, and Magdalena's brother Johann Wendel Haas are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 175. Michael Hiltenberger (age 10) is recorded in Household No. 10 with the Johannes Kaiser family. Susanna Hiltenberger (age 8) is recorded in Household No. 15 with the Johannes Schell family. The 1767 census does not record a relationship among the Kaiser, Hiltenberger, and Schell families.
The 1798 census of Leichtling records Johannes Hildenberger in Household No. Lg38. In 1798, Susanna is recorded on the 1798 census of Göbel in Household Gb65 married to Peter Neumann.
The 1767 census records that Philipp Hiltenberger came from the German village of Kusel near Zweibrücken.
