Discussion & Documentation

Gottlieb Himmelreich, a farmer, and his wife Johanna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard an English barque named George under the command of Skipper Adam Bairnsfair.

Gottfried Himmelreich and his wife Johanna Elisabet. are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

It is not known in which colony they settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Gottlieb Himmelreich came from the German region of Magdeburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Himmelreich family among the Volga German colonies.
