Hix(t) (Kutter)*

The Wolferborn parish records report that Johann Philipp Hix, son of Johann Adam and Anna Margaretha Hix, was baptized there on 8 March 1722. Gertraut Kreb, daughter of Johann Heinrich and Anna Barbara Kreb, was born on 29 March 1716. Johann Phillip Hix and Gertraut Kreb were married on 4 January 1747. The baptism of one child is recorded in Wolferborn: Johann Georg on 24 March 1748.

Johann Philipp Hicks, a farmer, his wife Gertruda, and children (Johann, age 21; Jakob, age 19) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 22 July 1766 aboard the pink Lev under the command of Lieutenant Fyodor Fyodorov.

Surviving son Johann Georg settled in the Volga German colony of Kutter on 8 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 39 along with his new wife Anita [believed to be Anna Eva Maul].

The 1798 census of Frank records Johann Georg Hicks from Kutter and his family in Household No. Fk112.

The death of Georg Hicks in 1823 is recorded on the 1834 census of Frank in Household No. 117.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Philipp came from the German region of Isenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Hicks family among the Volga German colonies.
