Philipp Hoffmann, his wife Elenora, and daughter Elisabeth (age 17) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767. [This Philipp Hoffmann is presumed to be the one that settled in Dietel as there are several other Dietel families recorded on the transport list near him.]
Philipp Hoffmann is recorded on the Karl Stumpp appendix to the 1767 census of Dietel.
Dr. Stumpp records that Philipp Hoffmann came from the German village of Waltenberg.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Hoffmann family among the Volga German colonies.
