Holmgren
Martin Holmgren, a blacksmith (Schmied) and locksmith (Schloßer), was born 9 October 1757 in Bäringa Kloster [Bäringa monastery] bei Mormoc Schauen [?]. He settled first in the Moravian colony of Sarepta.
He was discharged from there at his own request and moved to the Volga German colony of Kutter. He married there on 14 April 1790 to Anna Margaretha Vorbach, daughter of Friedrich & Maria Katharina Vorbach, who had been born in Kutter on 29 October 1767 right after her parents arrived in the colony on 16 August 1767. The Holmgren family is recorded in Kutter on the 1798 census in Household No. Kt77.
They returned to Sarepta on 25 October 1806. In July 1813, Martin Holmgren and his family moved from Sarepta to the colony of Karras in the North Caucasus. In 1826, there are two Holmgren households recorded in Karras.
