Discussion & Documentation

Leonhard Hubert, a tailor (Schneider), and his wife Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Leonh. Hubert, his wife Magdalena, and daughter Susanna (born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that newborn Susanna also died en route.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Nieder-Monjou on 7 June 1767. Leonhard Hubert is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 40 along with his new wife Maria.

In 1786, Leonhard Hubert and his family moved from Nieder-Monjou to Rosenheim.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Leonhard Hubert came from the German region of Alsfeld. The 1767 census records that he came from the German region of Nürnberg.
