Gottfried Goersch, his wife Maria Elisab., and daughter Anna Leonora (age 3) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Paulskaya on 7 June 1767. Gottfried Jersch [sic], a tailor (Schneider), his [new] wife Regina, son Gottfried (age 6-months), and [step-]children [surname not recorded] (Anna Regina, age 11; Johann, age 5) are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 65.
The widow and son of Gottfried Jersch are recorded on the 1798 census of Paulskaya in Household No. Pl35.
Immanuel Jorsch and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Schäfer in Household No. Sf04.
Immanuel Jorsch and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Schäfer in Household No. 48.
The death of Immanuel Jorsch in 1838 is recorded on the 1850 census of Schäfer in Household No. 89.
Translations of early documents record this surname as Jorsch, Jorsen, and Jorten. Jorsch is the spelling used in North America.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Gottfried Jersch came from the German region of Werzlich [?] while the 1767 census records that he came from the German region of Dessau.
[Juliana Eleonora Jerich, daughter of farmer Johan Joobst Jerich & Anna Margaretha Richpert (both of whom had been baptized in the area of Hessen-Darmstadt), was baptized on 30 June 1766 in St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in Lübeck. Her godparents were Johann Hinrich Kalbfleisch & Johan Wigand Schmidt. Since both of the godparents settled in Paulskaya, there could be some relationship between this Johann Joobst Jerich and Gottfried Jersch.]
