Discussion & Documentation

Johann Gottfried Jersch, a tailor (Schneider), his wife Johanna, and children (Christoph, age 16½; Henrietta, age 6) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a ship named Die Zwei Gebrüder (The Two Brothers) under the command of Skipper Nicolaus Peter Pinck along with his older son Rudolph Jersch, also a tailor (Schneider).

Rudolph Jersch (age 20), his brother Christoph (age 16), and sister Sophia (age 8) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

It is not known in which colony they settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that this Jersch family came from the German region of Dessau.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Jersch family among the Volga German colonies.
