Jost (Jost)
Johann Gottfried Jost, a stonemason (Maurer), his wife Dorothea, and sons (Gottfried, age 15; Christoph, age 3) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Jost on 5 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 1 along with the orphan Hartman Berker (age 19). The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Jost & Berker families.
It is after Johann Gottfried Jost that the colony of Jost took its name.
The 1767 census records that Johann Gottfried Jost came from the German village of Düben in the Sachsen (Saxony) region.
