Discussion & Documentation

Georg Heinrich Kagel, his wife Anna Dorothea, and daughter Elisabeth Margaretha (age 3) settled in the Volga German colony of Laub on 12 July 1767.

Georg Heinrich Kagel died there on 24 September 1767. His widow and daughter are recorded on the 1767 census of Laub in Household No. 59 along with orphan Johann Bernhardt (age 18) and a note that they relocated to the colony of Straub in 1768. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Kagel and Bernhardt families.

The 1767 census records that Anan Dorothea Kagel came from the German village of Birkenfeld.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Kagel family among the Volga German colonies.
