Discussion & Documentation

Johann Philipp Karr, a cobbler (Schuster), and his wife Louisa Elisabeth arrived from Lübeck on 14 August 1766 aboard a 2-masted merchant ship named Die Jungfer Frederika (The Maiden Frederika) under the command of Skipper Hans Christian Korsholm.

Johann Philip Karr and his wife Lowisa Magdalena are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Lowisa Magdalena died en route.

It is not known in which colony he settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Philipp Karr came from the German region of Pfalz.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Karr family among the Volga German colonies.

[The surname of this family is erroneously published as Becker in the Kuhlberg List translated by Igor Pleve.]
