Johannes Kempel, son of Conrad Kempel, and Anna Clara Roth, daughter of Caspar Roth, were married 9 February 1750 in Rückingen. The parish register of Rückingen records seven children: (1) Anna Clara, born 26 August 1751; (2) Johann Christoph, born in January 1754, died 19 March 1754; (3) Johann Christoph, born 24 May 1755, died 7 February 1763; (4) Johann Georg, born 6 May 1757; (5) Johann Caspar, born 10 May 1760; (6) Anna Amalia Wilhemina, born 3 July 1762; and (7) Catharina Elisabetha, born 27 February 1766.
Johann Kempel, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Anna, age 17; Johann, age 13; Kaspar, age 9; Katharina, age ½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Perle under the command of Skipper Thomson.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Kolb on 13 May 1767. By the time of the 1767 census of Kolb, Anna Klara Roth had remarried to Christian Reuber and she and son Johann Georg Kempel are recorded there in Household No. 2.
Georg Kempel is recorded on the 1798 census of Kolb in Household No. Ko25.
The 1767 census of Kolb does not record from where the Kempel family came.
