Balthasar Kern, a cooper (Fassbinder), his wife Regina, and brother Philipp (age 21) are recorded on a list of Beauregard recruits appended to the 1767 census of the Volga German colonies.

Widow Regina Kern, her daughter, and daughter's family are recorded on the 1798 census of Schaffhausen in Household No. Sh06.

Brother Philipp Kern and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Biberstein in Household No. Bb09.

The 1767 census records that Balthasar Kern came from the German village of Wohlau.
