Johann Klaus, a farmer, and his family (including his mother-in-law) settled in the Volga German colony of Dobrinka on 20 June 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 81.

The 1767 census records that Johann Klaus came from the German village of Stangos [?] in the Riedes [Riedesel?] region.
