Jakob Kniss, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 September 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Johann Hermann Anderson.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Kutter on 29 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 69.
Both the Orienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Jakob Kniss came from the German region of Isenburg.
