Jakob Ley, a farmer, his wife Sybilla, and daughter Anna (age 5¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a galliot named Frau Catharina under the command of Skipper Johann Joachim Jenßen.
Jacob Ley, his wife Anna Elisabeth, and daughter Elisabeth (age 5½) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
It is not known in which colony they settled.
The Oranienbaum passeenger list records that Jakob Ley came from Switzerland.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Ley family among the Volga German colonies.
