Discussion & Documentation

Johann Kaspar Lensen was born about 1794 in the Dutch town of Leve [sic]. He was a farmer.

He served as a soldier in the 37th Infantry Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought against the Russians and was captured.

Milovidov records that as of 1814 his father, mother, brother, and sister were still living in the village of Leuve [sic].

He is recorded among the captured Napoleonic soldiers who were settled among the Volga German colonies, but it is not known in which colony he was settled.

Milovidov records that Johann Kaspar Lensen came from the town of Leve [sic] in Holland. This may be the village of Leuven in Belgium [which was part of The Netherlands at this time].

There are no known surviving male lines of this Lensen family among the Volga German colonies.
