Johann Martin Lenz, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Bauer on 20 July 1766.

They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 33 along with Konrad Jung (age 6), his wife's brother.

The 1767 census records that Johann Martin Lenz came from the German village of Stahlberg in the Leiningen region.
