Lieber (Susannental)

Philipp Lieber, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Maria, age 17; Johann, age 14; Philipp, age 10; Katharina, age 5) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 8 August 1766 aboard the galliot Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Johann Joachim Janson.

Phillip Jacob Lieber, his wife Anna Dorothea, and children (Margaretha, age 17¼; Joh. Daniel, age 14; Joh. Philipp, age 10½; and Catharina (born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Philipp Jakob Lieber, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Johann, age 15; Johann Philipp, age 13; Katharina, age 7) are recorded on the 1767 census of Susannental in Household No. 31. They had settled there on 3 August 1767.

The minutes of the Kontora (Office of Immigrant Oversight) record:

"On 19 January 1776 the Mayor of Susannental wrote to the guardianship office with a request for the unmarried colonist Löber from the Nieder-Monjou colony to marry the colonist Maria Ursula Langolf from Kind and to go to Susannental and live in the house of the former Mayor Von Winckelmann, who with his shared household had moved to Ober-Monjou. It is reported that 20-year-old Löber had lived in Nieder-Monjou with colonist Johann Wirth as a stepson [this is probably Johann Philipp Lieber, who was 13 years old in 1767]. On 29 April 1776, the Kontora agreed to permit the marriage and a marriage certificate was issued with the condition that Löber undertake the move to Susannental at his own expense."

It appears that this Johann Philipp Lieber died after his marriage to Maria Ursula Langolf, because she is recorded on the 1798 census of Zürich in Household No. Zr06 as the widow of Jakob Dietrich [of Kind] and wife of Abraham Henze.

Daniel Lieber and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Susannental in Household No. Ss19.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Philipp [Jakob] Lieber came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Troa in the Darmstadt region.
