Discussion & Documentation

Johann [Friedrich] Lorenz, a single cobbler (Schuhmacher), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Jost on 5 July 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 18 along with his new wife Anna Regina.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Lorenz came from the German region of Sachsen (Saxony). The 1767 census records that Johann Friedrich Lorenz came from the German village of Meisenburg [?] in the Sachsen (Saxony) region.
