Discussion & Documentation

Johann Ludÿ, a farmer, his wife Rosina, and daughters (Katharina, age 17¼; Gertruda, age 8) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 August 1766 aboard an English frigate named Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

Johannes Ludy, his wife Elisabetha, and daughter Catharina (age 17¼) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Johannes died en route.

It is not known in which colony the widow Ludÿ settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Ludÿ came from the German region of Leiningen.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Ludÿ family among the Volga German colonies.
