Discussion & Documentation

Johann Gottlieb Maiwald, his wife Maria, and daughter Katharina (age 19) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Prinz Carl (Prince Carl) under the command of Skipper Christopher Losser.

Gottlieb Maywald [sic], his wife Maria, and daughter Dorothea Catharina (age 18) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Gottlieb died in route.

It is not known in which colony the widow Maiwald and her daughter settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list does not record from where Johann Gottlieb Maiwald came.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Maiwald family among the Volga German colonies.
