Discussion & Documentation

Paulus Markgraf, a hosier (Strumpfwerker), his wife Johanna, and their children (Christian, age 15; Maria, age 9; Johann, age 5; Maria, age 1) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 September 1766 aboard the ship Der Junge Heinrich under the command of Skipper Heinrich Niemann.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Paulskaya on 7 July 1767. Paulus, his new wife Maria, and children (Christian, age 15; Maria, age 9) are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 9.

In 1796, Johann Anton Markgraf moved from Paulskaya to Reinwald.

The 1767 census records that Paulus Markgraf came from the German region of Homburg.
