Discussion & Documentation

Martin März, a wool weaver (Wollweber), his wife Anna, and children (Johann, age 3; Anna Barbara, age 1½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 August 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Drei Gebrüder (Three Brothers) under the command of Skipper Ludwig Münzenberg.

Martin Merz and his wife Anna are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that Anna died en route.

It is not known in which colony Martin März settled.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Martin März came from the German region of Württemberg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this März family among the Volga German colonies.
