Matthisen (Stahl am Tarlyk-2)
Johann Arent Matthissen, a cobbler (Schuhmacher) and his wife Maria Magdalena settled in the Volga German colony of Stahl am Tarlyk on 19 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 48.
Hans Christian Matthissen and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Stahl am Karaman in Household No. St30.
The 1767 census records that Johann Arent Matthissen came from the German village of Lenzen in the Brandenburg region.
[There is a Peter Matthissen, a single farmer, who arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 3 June 1766 aboard the galliot Adler under the command of Skipper Paul Adolph Drath - several families that settled in Stahl am Tarlyk were on this ship. The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Peter Matthissen came from the German region of Friedrichshall.]
